We all desire health, yet when unwanted symptoms occur, our first instinct (through years/generations of conditioning) is to treat, suppress or do something in response to that expressed symptom.
We can’t just do nothing, can we? Doing nothing is often perceived as careless, reckless and unheard of!
One of the biggest issues that I’ve noticed over many years is our collective misinterpretation of what symptoms really are. Symptoms are not our enemy, as we are usually taught; they are actually the body’s attempts at healing itself. However, for the body to heal, we often must pass through a period of feeling unwell while dealing with unpleasant symptoms.
Most people fear their symptoms. Most fear feeling unwell. Maybe because sickness is a time where we are not only feeling awful, but we are forced to face ourselves and let the body take over. We feel powerless.
When it comes to our health, “doing something” almost always causes more harm than “doing nothing” and allowing the body to go through its processes. But most of us are afraid to find out.
The doctor often fears the patient into “doing something” by stating what could happen if they don’t administer the treatment or recommended poison.
The fear of doing nothing is born out of the fear of neglect and personal liability. Doing nothing and allowing the body’s processes to run their course is deemed the opposite of intelligence in today’s medical-minded world.
When we apply the so-called “remedies,” such as herbs, for example, we slow the healing process and often cause an additional burden to an already overburdened body. I’ll post about herbs and why they are damaging to our health later this month.
To take a step back and “do nothing intelligently” requires knowledge and faith in the body’s ability to heal itself.
I feel that it’s such a tragedy in itself that doing nothing has been ridiculed, demonized and looked upon as an uneducated layman’s approach.
I added an article from Dr. Virginia Vetrano to the files section that you may find helpful on this topic!
And remember, less is always more in the world of health and healing. Simplicity is key, and the truth is simple.
